Prominent Members of the Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi

Cincinnati has been the center of arts in the United States since it's founding. Called the "Queen of the West" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, it no surprise that Cincinnati arts have been compared to Paris. Because Cincinnati has been a mecca of artists and performers in the United States, there have been many prominent Brothers pass through the ranks of Kappa Kappa Psi by initiate from the Upsilon Chapter. Below is a compilation of Brothers initiation by the Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Many of these individuals can also be found in the "Prominent Members" lists in the Guide to Membership Education.

Dr. Frank L. Simon	April 3, 1932	Former soloist with the John Philip Sousa Orchestra; Former trumpet professor at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music
Karl L. King	March 3, 1935	United States march music bandmaster and composer
Joseph W. Davis	July 28, 1936	Assisted A. Frank Martin with the publishing of The Baton, now known as The PODIUM, after the Great Depression and during WWII; Was elected National Grand Editor during Francis R Todd’s term as Grand President
Thor Johnson	May 1, 1950	Former Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchetra
Dr. James Morand	February 22, 1957	Former Professor at the University of Cincinnati; Established the Dr. James Morand Memorial Scholarship for Brass
Thomas Talmadge	February 2, 1964	The UCBAA established the Tom Talmadge Scholarship in honor of the service Tom put into the UC Band as Band Announcer for several years. The Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate UC Band Members through the Band Alumni Endowment Fund.

Dr. Simon Anderson	March 3, 1991	Chorus Director at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music
Carol Dunevant	February 17, 2002	Former Director of Bands at Northern Kentucky University
Randol A. Bass	February 27, 2005	Composer and Arranger; Author of the current Upsilon Membership Education Program; Composed High Adventure, a work commissioned by our Sisters of the Theta Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma on the occasion of our 75^th anniversary.
