Drum Majors of the UC Bearcat Band Don Poynter - 1946-1948
Don Poynter graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, and was very skilled at what he did. According to a 1947 article in the Cincinnati Times Star, Poynter learned to "twirl the baton" from Eddie Maundrell, a Drum Major at OSU when he was in high school. In 1946, he was ranked 2nd in a national drum major competition in Chicago. Poynter served in a special forces unit of the Army in World War II. At UC, Don was enrolled in the Business School, and gave lessons to aspiring drum majors.

Poynter brought new innovations like twirling fire...	...and great hang time.
